Three Photos

The photos in Roy’s office

This year’s Come Home to Hope was exceeded every expectation. It was a beautiful night of celebration and inspiration that raised over $42,000 for the mission of SoloHope in Honduras!

The night was filled with inspiration, particularly from the stories that our keynote speaker, Roy Reeves, shared from his experiences in Honduras.

Roy and his wife, Cheryle, have visited Honduras many times, as well as having served on the board of SoloHope.

In 2024, Roy and Cheryle led a team to Honduras from their church, Heritage Church, in Moultrie, GA. On that week in Honduras, nothing went to plan to torrential rains. Fortunately, one of the team members had his guitar and was ready and willing to lead worship with the group as they visited families in the mountains of Honduras.

At those homes, Roy encountered three individuals with faith that truly moved mountains. The photos of each of those individuals hang on his office wall of a reminder of their faith and gratitude.

The first photo is of Isabel. Isabel is a daughter, sister, and mother, and for the last 13 years, she has been bedridden due to rheumatoid arthritis. For years, she did not see the sun, but when the team went to visit Isabel, they were amazed at her attitude. She said, “Jesus has been so good to me…” Even in her suffering, she declared His goodness.

The second photo is Ofelia. Ofelia had also spent over a decade bedridden due to rheumatoid arthritis. But that couldn’t hold down her spirit. Each time, any team had the privilege of visiting her home and gathering around her bed, the light of Jesus that lived inside her lit up the room and filled each person with such awe. Orfelia was such a joyful soul who would sing out in worship and praise of her heavenly Father. Orfelia went to be Jesus last year, where her joy was made complete.

The last photo in Roy’s frame is that of Oscar. When Roy and the team visited Oscar, they learned he had lost his entire crop due to some kind of pest. Their livelihood was destroyed. When the team asked how they could pray for him, he responded, “I can’t think of anything I need.” In the midst of great loss, he was still content.

Roy’s words left everyone thoughtful of all we have to be thankful for and in admiration of the Honduran people and their spirit.

At the end of Roy’s message, SoloHope’s co-director, Ever, surprised Roy and Cheryle with a special recognition. For their years of service, encouragement, and support, SoloHope proudly honored Roy and Cheryle Reeves with another photo to add to their collection.

Their support and wisdom has been a gift to SoloHope and the Umanzor family for years, and we are filled with gratitude for them.
